We were lucky to start the year off right, in collaboration with Sydney Cisco! She came to us as a vendor at one of our San Diego events when we decided a collab was in order. Here are some of her words about her career as an artist...
"I consider myself many things, but being an artist has always been the first descriptor I choose. Since I could hold a pencil in my little hands, I have been obsessed with creating new worlds with imagery. As I grew older, this passion expanded to include a variety of mediums from traditional materials like ink and watercolor, to a more technical approach through photography and digital art. I also love people immensely. I think human connection is incredibly powerful and special. Being a people person obviously influences my work; it almost always features humans I find beautiful and inspiring. I love to photograph and illustrate them in ways that best represent their essence and idiosyncrasies. People have the power to change the world, but we need art to give them visibility. "
^ She's kind of a badass herself btw.
Brainstorming powerful women for this card was the easiest thing I've done all year (alright we're not that far into it but still). Sydney and I bounced around some options and knew we wanted to narrow it down to three.
Here are some that didn't make the cut:
1. Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.
2. The woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune.
Lady Gaga1. I've been searching for ways to heal myself, and I've found that kindness is the best way.2. I think tolerance and acceptance and love is something that feeds every community.3. I feel like if you're a really good human being, you can try to find something beautiful in every single person, no matter what.
1. I am my own muse, the subject I know best.
2. I paint flowers so they will not die.
After we had selected our leading ladies, Sydney took it away with her unique illustration style, distilling these women down to some of their most iconic looks. These came out more beautifully than I could have imagined and we can't wait to collaborate with Sydney again!!
